Early Action decision letters are on their way

Stevie Wonder fans should be able to put the symbols to music.

Kudos to The Noun Project for the icons. (IHRTLUHC*)

Early Action admission decisions going out Wednesday

We know we said we’d notify Early Action applicants on January 30, but our data entry team really hustled over the past week to process all of our decisions, so we’re planning to drop our letters on January 25, a little ahead of schedule.

We still do things the old-fashioned way: our decisions go via First Class postal mail. (There’s still something to be said about good admissions news coming in big envelopes.) So even though our decisions will be leaving here on Wednesday, please allow time for them to arrive in your mailbox.

(And if you’re wondering, ice and ibuprofen really help soothe a hand after signing piles of admission letters.)

Investment tip: buy stock in manufacturers of blue pens

…because a big batch of our Early Action decision letters are ready for signing by the Dean of Admissions & Financial Aid (i.e., me). I’ll be signing them over the weekend so we can mail out our decisions in the first part of next week.

This is our largest Early Action applicant pool ever, and we are thrilled with the quality of applicants: great students, great stories, great future Lawrentians.

By the way: If you’re examining the photo closely to see if your letter is in the pile, I’m afraid the resolution of my camera will reveal little. However, the resolution is high enough to show the note my 9-year-old daughter wrote on the whiteboard to all of you.

Ack! I’ve applied, but some of my stuff appears to be missing.

You’ve applied to Lawrence.

You’ve checked your Voyager account to track your status.

Gasp! Some of your stuff is missing (even though you know you’ve sent it).

Step 1: Take a deep breath.
Step 2: Read on.

The New York Times, starring Lawrence University (again)

On December 17, the New York Times online ran a piece called Q&A College Admissions, an insider’s perspective on the difficult-to-decipher world of college admissions. To get the perspective, the Times put together a panel of admissions deans from Yale University, Pomona College, the University of Texas at Austin and Lawrence University, starring our very own Steve Syverson.
