50th Reunion: Class of 1963
Welcome to the 50-Year Reunion for the Lawrence Class of 1963
Since the first planning meeting in September (photo above), our 50th reunion committee has been busy contacting class members, organizing great entertainment for our class dinner, coordinating the 1963 class Reprise, and working with the university staff to make the reunion special in many ways.
In the link under the Who is Coming heading below are the names of classmates that have indicated they plan to come. We’re sure many more of you will want to celebrate with us; so send the good news to one of the Co-Chairs or University staff listed under Class Contacts. We’ll make sure you are added to the list.
By the way, time is getting short for submitting your input to the Reprise. Check out the details. Finally, check the progress on our Class Gift below. Of course, we have goals for the amount, but we especially hope everyone will contribute something. Let’s set a record for participation percentage!
In addition to updates on classmate attendance, details about the Alumni College and other activities will be coming up. Check back to keep up to date. Follow us on Facebook for photos and more interaction!
You will want to come!
Come not only to reconnect with your classmates, but also to see and experience the amazing evolution of the campus. As the campus photo reveals, a lot has changed since 1963. New buildings have appeared and many, including the chapel, have been renovated since we left the scene. It’s a truly stimulating and energized environment. Our 50th reunion class will have first class accommodations in the new Hiett Residence Hall (lower left), and many of the events will be in the new Campus Center (middle right), which lives up to its name as the center of campus life for all the students.
Day by Day Calendar
Here are some other good reasons to join us on campus in June for all or part of the celebration.
Wednesday, June 12
• The 50 Year Connection Dinner: Everyone whose class left Lawrence 50 or more years ago is invited; so now we make the list.
Thursday, June 13
• 50 Year Connection programming all day, including lunch with President Beck and discussions on matters of interest to our “more mature” age group.
• Class of 1963 Reception and BBQ Dinner on campus at Hiett Hall
Friday, June 14
• Alumni College featuring many simultaneous sessions led by alumni and faculty on scholarly and entertaining topics. Don’t miss this!
• Class Dinner with President Beck and faculty guests (from our years!)
Saturday, June 15
• Convocation with awards, recognition, and reminiscence for all reunion classes
• Picnic on Main Hall Green
• Class Dinner and Program
Sunday, June 16
• Send-off breakfast
• Bjørklunden for the day
Obviously there will be many ways to remember and enjoy the place and the people. As more details become available, they will be added to our 50th Reunion web site or the overall Reunion Weekend web site.
Who is Coming and How to Reconnect
As classmates tell us they plan to attend the reunion, we are publishing the list (click here). The sooner your name shows up, the sooner old friends will realize that they want to come too. If you want to get in touch with someone in advance, check Voyager for classmates’ current contact information.
Also, thanks to Nancy VanScoy Duffrin, you can interact with the recently created Facebook group.
Class Gift Goals
Our class gift is also an essential part of our celebration. Since student tuition only covers 65% of the actual costs, alumni support is needed to make up the difference. All gifts are important regardless of the amount. Please remember that you can make a multi-year pledge and the total amount will be included as part of our class gift. We’re on the right track, but everyone’s support is needed.
Below you will find the progress made on our class gift as of March 6:
The Lawrence Fund (goal $163,000) $114,440
Gifts for Other Purposes $23,631
Planned Gifts $685,000
Total Goal = $1 Million $823,071
Founders Club members (goal 25): 21
Multi-Year Pledges (goal 25): 29
Participation (goal 75%): 47.8%
Legacy Circle members (goal 15): 11
Click here for giving information. It’s a good start. Don’t forget that commitments for as many as five years into the future will be counted!
