The Lawrence Men’s Soccer team earned a tremendous victory last night (October 20th) over rival St. Norbert College on the road. The 2-1 win clinched a berth to this year’s Midwest Conference Championship tournament. The Vikings displayed great determination and will power … and prevailed with some key last-second plays.
The team seemed energized right from the start and held that fire throughout the entire game. One of the reasons this may have occurred could be the fact that the road game had the feel of a home game. Despite unfriendly winds and spotty rain, 40 or more Lawrence University students made the 25-minute trip North to support their fellow classmates. They cheered relentlessly and the team likely fed off the energy. The LU student supporters were definitely more vocal than the home team’s supporters.
We hope that this is a start of even more support for the athletes at Lawrence. The student-athletes put many hours into their particular sport – and the support of other stduents truly enhances their ability to perform. It is appreciated by all the athletes and will be an asset for our teams down the road.
Well done to both the Men’s Soccer Team and the LU fans!!!
