Lecture: Messiaen, “Quartet for the End of Time”

This lecture on Messiaen’s “Quartet for the End of Time”, delivered at Lawrence University on October 20, 2008, was designed for students and faculty in the college’s Freshman Studies program. Freshman Studies, a multidisciplinary introduction to the liberal arts, has been the cornerstone of the Lawrence curriculum for over fifty years. The lecturer, Cathy Kautsky, is a Professor of Music and chair of the keyboard department at Lawrence. Professor Kautsky holds a bachelor’s degree from the New England Conservatory, a master’s degree from The Juilliard School, and a doctoral degree in performance from the State University of New York at Stony Brook.

Lecture: Albert Einstein, Relativity

This lecture on Einstein’s Relativity, delivered at Lawrence University on October 6, 2008, was designed for students and faculty in the college’s Freshman Studies program. Freshman Studies, a multidisciplinary introduction to the liberal arts, has been the cornerstone of the Lawrence curriculum for over fifty years. The lecturer, Megan Pickett, is an Associate Professor of Physics at Lawrence. Professor Pickett holds a B.A. from Cornell University, and a M.A. and Ph.D from Indiana University–Bloomington. Her interests include computational astrophysics, origins of solar systems, stability and dynamics of fluid configurations, and star formation.
