Welcome to the Lawrence University Blog Inside-Out. Here we detail our efforts to integrate mobile tablet PCs into our Introductory Environmental Science course and our ENST curriculum in general. This effort was funded by Hewlett-Packard in June 2007 through their Technology for Teaching initiative. You can see a copy of our funded grant proposal below and learn more about HP philanthropy in higher education by clicking here. You can use the tabs above to visit particular topics of interest. We've recorded our progress on the initiative using a Blog which you can visit and comment on. If you have any questions about our initiative, please contact the PI Jeff Clark.
Students Involved: 150+
Faculty Involved: 4
Courses: Environmental Science, Geology, and Ecology
The portability and flexibility of the HP Tablet PCs permit a major redesign of Introduction to Environmental Science course, transforming it from a classroom- course to a hands-on exploration of real-world problems in environmental science. Tablet PCs create a wireless classroom-on-the-go that allows students to locate and analyze environmentally relevant information on the internet, head out to the field collect samples and other primary data, connect directly to laboratory instruments for instant sample analysis, then pool their data and identify geospatial trends.
