Whoa! It’s 8th week at Lawrence University! Things are really busy around this time of the term for everyone. Well, I can speak for myself anyway. I have been very busy with my chemistry class. I’m very excited that I am nearing the conclusion of my biology major; I have nothing against science classes, I am just not a particularly great chemist! Still, even though chemistry isn’t my favorite subject, there are aspects of the courses taught in the chemistry department that help me become a better scientist as a whole. Either way, I have been taking some classes this year for my major that have really stood out to me, such as Plant Life, as well as Biodiversity. Next term, I’m scheduled to take a biology course entitled “Vegetation in Wisconsin”, where the goal of the class is to explore the principles of the plant-environment interrelationships within Wisconsin vegetation. I am very excited! I think it will be great to do a nature-interactive biology course.
I have also been enjoying working my on campus jobs as of late. I think that it is always refreshing when we add new members to our student calling team in the admissions department (the best part is that they are all fellow students as well). It’s pretty cool to be in a laid-back work setting with the same people that I sit in classes with; it makes me feel like we are real people here, and don’t just have to be students.
Even though I have been very busy with my academics as of late, I have still had some time to spend some time with a few of my good friends from my Posse scholarship foundation program. It’s always great to see them since they are all from New York too (very refreshing!). Also, I’ve been able to spend some time to develop my current music project, which is hip-hop related. Working on my music aside from school helps me balance things as a whole while I’m here on campus. What’s even cooler is that I have opportunities to perform my music, live, for all of my peers! Sometimes, certain theme houses on campus (Art house, Outdoor Recreation Club house, International house, fraternities) will put together parties and have student-run bands on campus come and perform at the party. I recently was invited to perform at a show and am very excited for it! It’s cool to share that experience with he same peoples you have classes with.
Since I live pretty far from school (Harlem, New York), it is difficult for me to travel home with ease. For this reason, for the first time since I have been at Lawrence University, I will be spending my spring break in Wisconsin, on campus. This is going to be spent mostly exploring Appleton and recording new music. I will also probably apply for a job in the area that will keep me a little busy in a productive way. I hope that I can spend some time at some new places in Appleton that I have never been to.
I will check back in a few weeks!
