Traditional Alaskan Subsistence Foods and Materials
My product is an illustration book of subsistence foods that indigenous Alaskan communities have traditionally lived on and incorporated into their culture. As a book of illustrations with minimal writing, the audience for this product can range from adults and my peers in the sciences to a child with little or no background in nutrition or native studies. The purpose of this project is to highlight traditional aspects of Native Alaskan diet, connect them to indigenous health outcomes, and open discussion about food accessibility and health barriers that are affecting contemporary native communities.
