Wisconsin Science Fest BioBlitz

Join us in a week-long, self-directed citizen science event! We’ll work together to identify non-domesticated animal, plant, and fungi species throughout Appleton. With the easy to use digital citizen science tool iNaturalist, you can log observations by snapping a photo, adding a description, and identifying the species. Don’t worry if you’re not an expert, iNaturalist’s computer vision will make species recommendations based on your photo.

VITAL Tutoring Program

Would you like to help kids in the Appleton Area strengthen their academic skills? The Volunteers in Tutoring at Lawrence (VITAL) program serves K12 students in the Appleton Area School District. Subject areas range from elementary math to AP English!

We are committed to ensuring that all tutors and tutees have productive and academically effective sessions. Completion of Youth Protection Training and a background check is required for all volunteers. VITAL fully commits to providing families with the support necessary to further their students’ academic success. Tutors are expected to commit to 1-2 hours per week during the academic year.

First of Many Program

Are you interested in supporting first-generation college students in their junior year of high school as they began to research and apply to colleges? We need passionate students who are willing to reflect on their own experiences and guide high-school students as they navigate the application process, financial aid, and more!

First of Many includes both the Appleton Area School District (AASD) and the Kaukauna Area School District (KASD), which involves a total of four public high schools. We have a service shuttle and Valley Transit resources for transportation, and it would include a commitment of one term (one session per week during the school day).
This form (linked below) is to see how many LU students are interested in mentoring. Once we begin revising the curriculum and collaborating with the districts (late fall), we will reach out to each student who has completed the form to make an official commitment to the program.
