Winter Term 2023 COVID Update | December 14, 2022

Dear Lawrentians,

We hope you were able to relax and reconnect over winter break, and look forward to welcoming you back to campus. We write today with updates regarding our health protocols for the academic year.

Campus Community Pledge
Together we have successfully mitigated the impact of COVID-19 on the campus community. This can be directly attributed to everyone’s dedication to Honor the Pledge, which outlines the living, learning, and working tenets for all members of our campus community. The Pledge asks each of us to take an active role in the care, health, and well-being of ourselves and fellow Lawrentians. Thank you for your continued commitment as we enjoy the holidays and look forward to our Winter Term.

Covid 19 Vaccination Protocols
All members of the Lawrence community are required to be fully vaccinated with a minimum of one booster dose. Exemptions may be granted to individuals based on a medical condition, strong religious or sincerely held belief, or personal conviction. Proof of vaccination and one booster dose must be submitted to the university.

Returning to Campus
Please consider testing within 72 hours prior to your arrival to campus. If you test positive, email deanofstudents@lawrence.edu to make alternative arrival plans.

Visit the CDC’s Travel page for travel guidelines
Upon arrival to campus, please get tested if:
· You have traveled internationally.
· You have traveled to areas with greater risk of exposure, such as being in crowded places while not wearing a high-quality mask or respirator, or locations where the positivity rate remains high.

Student-specific Information:

  • COVID-19 antigen tests are available for free through Wellness Services or Campus Safety.
  • If you test positive on campus, contact WellnessServices@lawrence.edu or Campus Safety, or 920-832-6999 for further instructions.

Symptom Monitoring
Self-monitoring is one of the most important steps we can take to remain a healthy community:

  • Monitor symptoms daily.
  • If symptoms develop, take a rapid test, self-isolate, and mask.
  • Follow isolation protocols.
  • Students should contact Wellness Services if they test positive.
  • Employees should contact Human Resources if they test positive.
  • You do not need to report a negative test result.

Isolation on Campus

  • Students who live on campus will isolate in place as required.
  • There will be alternative spaces for special circumstances.
  • Students who live off campus will separate from others, stay in an isolated room or area, and use a separate bathroom (if available).
  • All students will wear a mask to get food and bring it back to their room to eat.
  • Visit the Positive Tests, Isolation, and Close Contacts webpage for details.

Masking Protocols
Lawrence University is a mask-friendly campus, and we encourage you to respect the masking preferences of fellow Lawrentians and to follow our masking requirements in times of exposure and positivity.

  • Masks must be worn upon request, by individuals who have been identified as close contacts, or when individuals are in the five-day period following the completion of isolation for COVID-19.
  • Faculty may require masks in classrooms based on room capacity, air ventilation, and/or personal preference.
  • Students may require guests to wear masks in their residence hall rooms.
  • Employees may require others to be masked in individual offices.
  • Meeting and event organizers may also require the use of masks.
  • Printable signage is available in the Honor the Pledge | Communications Tool-Kit.

Any questions or concerns regarding our winter plans or other issues can be emailed to coronainfo@lawrence.edu. As always, be well and stay well.

Sincerely,

Rich Jazdzewski
Dean of Wellness Services
