Final Report From the Life After Lawrence Task Force

We are pleased to announce that the Final Report from the Life after Lawrence Task Force was endorsed by the Board of Trustees at the mid-May meeting.  The Final Report is a summary of the recommended objectives, goals, strategies and initiatives for Life after Lawrence following eight months of work by the task force.  In line with university practice, we are now publishing the report on-line and would like to open it up for public comment.  Comments will be received through mid-July and will be integrated into the next phase of the initiative which is the development of the Implementation Plan.  The Implementation Plan will be drafted during July-September and will be presented to the Board of Trustees for endorsement at the November 2018 meeting.  Implementation of the task force’s full recommendations are anticipated to take up to five years and involve all constituencies of Lawrence including students, faculty, staff, alumni and parents.  Comments will be received through July 15, 2018.  The full report and comment form can be viewed at the following link: http://www.lawrence.edu/students/career/life-after-lawrence-open-comments

A new chapter for Paris Wicker

Dear Lawrence Community-

I am writing to share news about an upcoming staff transition in the Student Life Division.    As some of you may already be aware, Paris Wicker will be leaving her role as Associate Dean of Students for Student Transitions, Support, and Persistence in late summer.

After nearly 15 years at Lawrence University as student and staff member, Paris has determined the time has come for a new endeavor. In the fall, Paris will return to graduate school to pursue a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis at the University of Wisconsin- Madison.  Paris shares that ‘This was a difficult and bittersweet decision to make, and while I prepare to leave with mixed emotions, I truly believe this new opportunity will provide the pedigree and research experience necessary for a successful and life-long career in higher education as a scholar-practitioner.’

As many of you have experienced firsthand, Paris has been a significant member of the Lawrence community.  Beginning in her time with the Admissions Office, and while serving numerous terms on the President’s Committee on Diversity Affairs, leading the CORE program, Senior Class programs, and providing guidance and support to many Lawrentians, you know that she has been a tremendous asset to Lawrence.

In the coming months we will create time to celebrate Paris and thank her for her invaluable commitment to the Lawrence community, but today I write to share this news, and to thank her for the passion, dedication, and sincerity she has brought with her every time she has set foot on campus.

While we won’t ever be able to replicate all that Paris brought to her role in Student Life we will soon begin a search for a position that will continue to support students during their time on campus.

Please join me in congratulating Paris on her new opportunities and thanking her for her dedication and great work!

Warm regards,

Curt

Nominate students to serve on Honor Council

It’s that time of the year again: the Lawrence University Honor Council is now recruiting new members for the 2018-2019 academic year, and your nominations form an important part of the process. Since we value a council that represents the student body at Lawrence, we are committed to ensuring that we have a diverse council. Please nominate any peers who you think are responsible, good listeners, who work well in a group, and have well-developed analytical thinking skills.  A large and diverse nomination pool will strengthen the selection process and allow for the continuity of the Honor System in coming years.

Any rising sophomore, junior, or senior who has not been found in violation of the Honor Code or Judicial Code, and who is committed to the Honor System, is eligible for membership.  To nominate a student for the Honor Council, please email their name to jere.wickens@lawrence.edu  by Friday, April 13th.  Feel free to list several names.

Look out for information tables in Warch Campus Center this week.

Sincerely,
Maren Dahl and Willa Dworschack
Honor Council Selection Co-Chairs

Help for the Homeless Hygiene drive

Reminder! Beta Theta Pi will be picking up donations for the “Help for the Homeless” Hygiene drive this Saturday, March 3.  Please leave your donations in the boxes available in most buildings or on your office door knob (if you received a bag in advance) or email Tom Goldberg for pick-up.  Lawrence was not able to secure many donations for this cause in the past so your help is much appreciated. Additional information about this drive can be found in the original message below.

Not having access to hygiene products can mean not staying in school for children who get bullied due to their resulting lack of hygiene, and increased risk of diseases for homeless individuals of all ages. In particular, communicable diseases that can easily be mitigated through sustained hygiene often are able to spread in populations that don’t have access to above hygiene products.

All donations can be placed in the collection boxes located on the third floor of the Warch Campus Center, the third floor of the Wellness Center, the Steitz atrium, and the lobby of the Conservatory. In addition, some of you may find a bag with an information card on your door, in which case you can simply leave the donation there, and Beta Theta Pi will simply pick it up after the drive ends on Saturday, March 3rd. You can email me at thomas.b.goldberg@lawrence.edu if you have any questions regarding donations or the organizations involved, or you can also seek out more information at www.thefamily.net. We appreciate any and all help on behalf of the homeless community here in the Fox Valley.

Special thanks to The Family on 91.9 FM for making this event possible.

Thanks and Sincerely,

“Help for The Homeless” Hygiene Drive

This week kicks off our campus’ branch of the “Help for The Homeless” Hygiene Drive! Currently, local homeless shelters in the Fox Valley and elsewhere receive no federal funding for hygiene products such as shampoo, soap, deodorant, and toothpaste, and rely almost exclusively on donations from the community to provide for these needs. This drive is also occurring off campus in Appleton and in other areas in the state of Wisconsin.
