Public Health Career Week at Lawrence! Week of October 28

Next week is Public Health Career Week at Lawrence, with multiple opportunities to explore how different interests, skills and education can be applied to benefit society through a broad range of public health careers.

Students and faculty are welcome to attend all offered events. Lawrence is partnering with multiple organizations on this initiative, each bringing unique perspective and expertise into the conversation:

  1. The Peace Corps – Tuesday, October, 29
    Tali Levine from the Peace Corps will host an Information Session over lunch and 1:1 Chats to discuss opportunities for public health field experience through volunteering with the Peace Corps. Student Registration
  2. Returning Lawrence Alumni – Saturday, November 2
    An Alumni Panel consisting of former LU students who’ve pursued careers in public health will discuss their fields and provide insight into the many sectors of public health. Student Registration
  3. UW School of Medicine & Public Health – Saturday, November 2
    A UW grad school admissions rep will give a presentation on preparing for graduate study in public health. Student Registration
  4. GlobeMed – Saturday, November 2
    LU’s GlobeMed student organization will host a documentary screening of The Bleeding Edge, a film that explores the positive and negative aspects of technological advances in modern medicine. Student Registration

Lawrence’s 2nd Annual Internship and Career Fair – September 26

On Thursday, September 26, Lawrence is hosting its 2nd Annual Internship & Career Fair in the Warch Campus Center – Somerset Room from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m.

Over 25 employers will be in attendance seeking candidates for internships, part-time, and full-time opportunities. There will be a strong learning component to this year’s fair, allowing students to learn about each organization’s opportunities for emerging leaders, company culture, workplace diversity, and community engagement initiatives.

Participating employers will include Johnson Controls, Northwestern Mutual, U.S. Venture, M3 Insurance, Breakthrough Fuel, Associated Bank, AFLAC, Boldt, Appleton Group, Fox Valley Scribes, UnitedHealth Group, Captel, the FBI, U.S. Census Bureau, Weidert Group, MIlliporeSigma, Epic, Pound Social/Dodles, Fox Valley Performing Arts Center, Pillars, City Year, Building for Kids Children’s Museum, Riverview Gardens, Junior Achievement USA, and more!

Boston Consulting Group Is Coming to Lawrence!

On Monday, May 13, join Steve Filler (BCG Director – Lawrence Class of 1997) during his visit to campus to network and learn more about internship and entry-level consulting opportunities with the Boston Consulting Group.

Following the info session will be opportunities for interested students to meet 1:1 with Mr. Filler in the Center for Career, Life & Community Engagement.

Former US Ambassador of India will be at Lawrence on May 14!

On May 14, former US Ambassador of India, Dr. David Mulford (Lawrence Class of 1959), will be visiting the Lawrence campus and hosting an info session for students interested in exploring career paths in foreign service.

Presenting: Careers in Digital Space – April 25 at 4pm

Join Emily Dalton Niles ’09 tonight at 4:00 p.m. in the Warch Cinema and learn how to leverage your knowledge and experiences in the digital space to benefit the causes and organizations you want to work for after college. FREE gourmet popcorn will be provided!

Careers in digital space are vast and can vary greatly across disciplines. From graphic design, web development and social media to email campaigning, data and analytics and project management, position yourself for success by attending this info session.

Careers with Gravie: Better Benefits for All

On Tuesday, April 16 at 11:00 a.m., you are invited to learn about Gravie, a Minneapolis-based, industry-changing healthcare company, and open positions available to graduating seniors to work with their company.
Gravie was founded by Lawrence alumnus, Abir Sen, Class of 1997.

Students interested in Business & Entrepreneurship, Health Care & Life Sciences, and Technology & Data Sciences, and students with a bilingual Spanish speaking skill set may be interested in the open positions.

City Year: Careers in Education and National Service

On Wednesday, April 17 at 4:00 p.m., join Jose Torres to learn about City Year and career opportunities in education and national service.

City Year is a national organization helping close the gap in high-need schools by supporting students’ academic and social-emotional development, while providing schools with additional capacity to enhance culture and climate.

Info Session: Fellowship Opportunity at Lincoln Park Zoo – Animal Welfare Science Program

On March 5, join Katie Cronin in Steitz Hall Room 202 to learn about a fellowship opportunity being hosted by the Lincoln Park Zoo’s Animal Welfare Science Program.

This is a one year position which would work on a topic that advances our understanding of applied animal welfare. The fellow will work collaboratively with program staff to collect and analyze data on several species at the zoo. The position offers the potential to gain skills in animal behavior methods, literature reviews, data analysis, endocrine lab work, scientific writing and presenting. This fellowship includes an opportunity to conduct an independent project of mutual interest to the mentor and student that advances our understanding of applied animal welfare.

MLK Jr. Day of Service – Monday, January 21, 2019

You are invited to participate in the annual MLK, Jr. Day of Service happening Monday, January 21.

Join the entire Lawrence community and embody the work of Dr. King through support of some of today’s continuing civil rights movements. Students, staff and faculty will honor the continuance of the efforts and ideas of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr through learning, serving, and celebrating.
