Dark Sky Exercise: May 15-17

A full-scale training exercise simulating a long-term mass power outage in Wisconsin will run from May 15 – 17 at sites around the state.

This exercise is known as Dark Sky and will be taking place in Brown, Calumet, Dane, Fond du Lac, Milwaukee, Outagamie and Winnebago Counties to test the abilities of private utilities, law enforcement, first responders, and the National Guard to respond to the scenario as well as its second and third order effects.

The public should not be concerned if they notice an increased emergency responder presence, military personnel, vehicles and equipment, or non-military unmanned aerial vehicles operating in their communities during the exercise. The exercise includes an Alliant Energy facility in Fond du Lac County, which will serve as one of the National Guard training sites.

The goal of the exercise is to increase understanding of the coordination, policies, and procedures required to conduct a joint inter-agency response to cyber and physical threats to critical infrastructure in Wisconsin.

For more information on this exercise visit the WI Department of Military Affairs webpage.

WAICU Retirement Readiness Plan Transition

As you may have seen in a mailing to your home, the Lawrence Retirement Readiness Plan is transitioning to the WAICU Retirement Readiness Plan.

Transamerica will be onsite hosting both group and one on one meetings May 21 – 24 (see schedule below). To learn more about Transamerica and how they can help you improve your overall well-being as you plan and invest for retirement, please attend one of the upcoming group meetings. Representatives from Transamerica will also be available to meet with you individually and answer any questions you may have regarding the transition as well as about rolling over funds from an account other than the Lawrence University Retirement Readiness Plan (those funds will automatically transition).

To schedule a one-on-one appointment, visit waicu403b.trsretire.com (you do not need to login). You will select “Schedule an Appointment” and choose “A – WAICU – Lawrence University” as the location before choosing your individual time.

There is no need to RSVP for the group meetings.

Teacher Appreciation Week

When we ask alumni to tell us what was most impactful about their time at Lawrence, a good majority answer with a professor’s (or five professors’) name. Teaching and mentoring relationships are a highlight of the Lawrence experience so we plan to celebrate Lawrence’s amazing faculty members during Teacher Appreciation Week (May 7-11).

The Alumni-Development department will be encouraging alumni to express their gratitude by sharing a sentiment and/or making a gift to the Lawrence Fund in honor or memory of professors, staff members and mentors that enriched their lives.

We will be sharing these messages with the honoree, on our website, and some on of our social media sites. Please let Stephanie Bray stephanie.s.bray@lawrence.edu know if you DO NOT want your messages shared on social media.
