Dr. Kimberly Barrett, Vice President of Diversity & Inclusion is hosting open office hours. The second session of open office hours for Winter Term is being held on February 7th, 2018. Shake out the winter chill, warm up your body and expend the energy that wants to get out.  Unplug, make a noise, be silly, sing, dance, create movement and let energy flow.  Cast off an old habit and create a new one.

Taize’

Taize’ will continue at All Saints Episcopal Church, just a short walk from campus.  Candlelight, chant, singing, and musical appreciation of Christian scripture.  This service is created and shaped by Lawrence students. All are welcome to share in the unique and experience that is Taize’.

Talking Circles

Talking Circles are developing on campus where participants and observers are coming together in a sense of community and harmony to discuss and share.  Intentional and supportive Talking Circles are continuing throughout the term on select Tuesdays.  The next chance to continue or take part in this unique opportunity is January 23rd, 4:30pm at the Center for Spiritual and Religious Life

Lawrence Students, Staff, Faculty and people from the Appleton community are invited to attend. The Upstander training will help you build the skills to interrupt bullying or other harmful behaviors and comments. Learn how to become an agent for change and co-creator of positive narratives about race and other identities. Participants will unpack real-life scenarios to enable them to effectively challenge prejudice in our community. Those who plan to attend are asked to commit to be present for the entire training session.

Flu shots still available!

If you’ve seen either the local or national news this week, you’ve likely seen reports that influenza is at epidemic levels and only expected to get worse in the coming weeks. If you haven’t already received a flu vaccination, you still can! New Program: Lawrence Scholars in Civic Engagement

Message from: Brian Pertl, Dean of the Conservatory, Mary Meany, Dean of Career Services and Kristi Hill, Director of Volunteer and Community Service Programs

We wanted to announce an exciting program we are launching this term called Lawrence Scholars in Civic Engagement (LSCE). LSCE is designed for students who are interested in exploring work in civic engagement, including: not-for-profit, education, social impact, cultural and political advocacy and the arts through an internship or volunteer opportunity. LSCE will help us package and promote the many non-profit opportunities we have for our students in one place. This will also assist Admissions in their work with prospective families, as well as help our students have an easier time of identifying opportunities and funding.

We have developed partnerships with multiple organizations to offer internships that provide an award to support students in their co-curricular pursuits. Through one application, students have the opportunity to apply for pre-identified internships with a number of organizations such as Carnegie Hall, KIPP Academy, Bread for the World and others! Also, students who have self-identified an internship or volunteer opportunity in civic engagement as described above, are eligible to apply for financial support through the same application. Check out the LSCE page to learn more about each opportunity.

Encourage students to apply online here! Please know the Career Services staff is available to help students discern their interests as they prepare their application materials. Deadline for funded internships is February 23, 2018 and for self-identified internships or service projects is April 7, 2018.

Drop-In Lunch with Dan Meyer, Director of Facility Services

Dan Meyer, Director of Facility Services, will be the guest of Staff Connection’s Drop-In Lunch next Thursday, January 25 from noon – 1 p.m. We will meet in the Lower Level Classroom in Brokaw Hall. Bring your own lunch and have a conversation with Dan about facility happenings around campus, including an update on the on-going conversations surrounding street parking around campus.
