The Crowdfund for Lawrence Athletics

Each of our 21 NCAA Athletics programs is looking to fund individual projects that are focused on enhancing the student-athlete experience. In the spirit of March Madness, each team will compete for donor support. The overall goal is to beat the number of donors last year’s crowdfund had and reach at least 650 donors by April 2.

Don’t want to wait until March 27 to support our student-athletes but still want to be counted in the crowdfund? No worries, if you make your gift today we will still count you in our donor totals once the crowdfund officially launches.

Annual Canned Food Drive

Members of the Student Athletic Advisory Committee will be visiting the academic buildings as well as administrative offices to collect donations for their Annual Canned Food Drive this next Thursday, November 8th during convocation hour (11:00-12:00).

All donations, cans or money, will be accepted and given to Blessings in a Backpack,  a non-profit organization that feeds school children in the United States who currently are fed during the week on the federally funded Free and Reduced Meal Program and are at risk of going hungry on the weekends. Anything that you are willing to contribute is appreciated.

If you are not going to be available during that time but would like to donate, please feel free to leave donations with a colleague who will be available, or email madeline.a.maclean@lawrence.edu to set up an alternative time for pick up.

Thank you! And Go Vikes!

NCAA DIVISION III WEEK

In honor of Division III week, the Athletics Department invites all faculty and staff to dress in Lawrence University gear on April 3rd, 2018.

WHAT IS DIVISION III WEEK?
Division III Week is a positive opportunity for all individuals associated with a Division III institution to observe and celebrate the impact athletics and student-athletes have on campus and in the surrounding community. During the week, every Division III school and conference office is encouraged to conduct an outreach activity that falls into one of three categories: academic accomplishment; athletic experience; or leadership/community service/campus involvement. Division III Week is a strategic initiative that achieves its desired impact from a unity of effort. It harnesses everyone working toward the same goal at the same time to build a greater awareness and understanding of Division III athletics.

LU softball team back for another Polar Plunge

The Lawrence softball team is returning for its fourth straight Polar Plunge to support Special Olympics.

On Saturday, Feb. 18, the Vikings will jump into Lake Winnebago. Anyone interested in donating to the cause can make a tax-deductible contribution online.

Last year, the softball team raised more than $4,500, and it’s hoping to surpass that amount this time around.

SAAC canned food drive going door-to-door

As a part of the Midwest Conference Canned Food Challenge, the Lawrence University SAAC (Student-Athlete Advisory Committee) is collecting canned food items as well as monetary donations to donate to Blessings in a Backpack. LU SAAC is asking for the help of staff and faculty members to help collect these items on Thursday, Nov. 3 at 11:30 a.m. Each $1 donated will count as two cans in the MWC Canned Food Challenge.

On Thursday at 11:30 a.m., SAAC members will be going door-to-door to faculty and staff offices to collect canned food items or monetary donations at the following buildings:

  • Briggs
  • Youngchild & Steitz
  • Main Hall
  • Admissions/Career Services
  • The Conservatory
  • Brokaw
  • Sampson House

If your office is not on this list or you will not be present at that time and would like to donate, please come to one of those buildings at 11:30 a.m. or drop your items off with a colleague!

Blessings in a Backpack is a program for local elementary schools who have a high number of students who are on assisted lunches or demonstrate a high need for extra food that they are unfortunately not getting at home. BIAB gives these kids backpacks of food each Friday during the school year to make sure they are getting enough to eat on the weekend. LU SAAC has already been in contact with the local BIAB chapter, and it will use the monetary donations or canned food items to help stock these backpacks at local Appleton elementary schools for students who are in need.

If you have any questions, please contact SAAC advisor Ashley Wellman (ashley.l.wellman@lawrence.edu).
