Colour my World

“As time goes on . . . ” (takes me back to junior high dances, thank you Peter Cetera).

This weekend, July 10-12, we have some artistic fun @ the Viking Corner for campus residents: Rainbow scratch art (maybe that takes you back to elementary school). Stop by your residence hall’s Viking Corner and grab some rainbow scratch sheets and a stylus and create your own masterpiece!

Lawrence University London Centre Celebrates 50 Years

On July 6, 1970, the first group of Lawrence University students began classes at the newly opened London Centre at the Arden Hotel in the Earls Court neighborhood of London. Although the London Centre has changed location several times over the years, it has continued to accept students each year for the past five decades and remains one of the most popular study abroad options for Lawrence University students today.

We look forward to sharing more about the Lawrence University London Centre over the upcoming academic year as we celebrate 50 years in 2021-2022!

You can read more about the London Centre’s first days on the Off-Campus Programs Office’s new blog – Study Ablog: Stories from and about Lawrence University’s international and domestic off-campus programs.

A lunch option opens July 6th

At the request of the Office of the President, Bon Appetit will make the current student lunch program available to faculty and staff who have returned to campus.

Lunch (to go) is available for purchase Monday thru Friday, 11:30-12:30 in Kate’s Corner Store on the 2nd floor of the Warch Campus Center (items in the corner store are not available for purchase, just lunch). The cost will be $5, payable with Viking Gold or credit card only, no cash. Options are VERY limited. You can view the daily options at www.cafebonappetit.com/lawrence.

Masks and social distancing in the Warch Campus Center is mandatory.

Were You A First-Generation Student?

At Lawrence, we consider students whose parents/guardians do not have a four-year degree to be part of our cohort of first-generation students. Being a first-generation student myself, I can speak first-hand about navigating college unable to rely on the people I normally would for advice: my parents. As we work to support all of our students of varying identities that they hold, we are continuing to look at the best ways to support First-Generation Students. One way is to keep a running list of first-generation faculty and staff — these faculty and staff may choose to put up a door sign by their offices to help students easily identify that the person working there may be a person who understands their perspective of navigating the college experience, or wear a pin to different occasions on campus to identify themselves as first gen.

If you haven’t identified yourself as a First-Generation faculty/staff member yet, please fill out the First-Generation Faculty and Staff Form with a  few questions that includes your choice of being contacted about anything involving the topic of first generation students. If you HAVE already identified yourself in the past, but need to indicate that you need a door sign, pin, or want to be added/taken off of a mailing list, please head to the form!

Pot a plant!

This weekend (June 26-28), the office of student activities and virtual programming invites all campus residents to test out their “green thumbs”. Pots that can be decorated, potting soil and flower seeds will be available at the Kohler and Colman residence hall grab & go tables (“Viking Corner”). Stop by Friday thru Sunday, get your supplies and start gardening.

Congratulations | Volunteer Recognition

The Center for Community Engagement and Social Change is pleased to award a very special group of 51 Lawrentians. These students have continuously shown compassion and dedication to serving others. Their devotion to educating, supporting, and inspiring others through volunteer work has resulted in a tremendous positive impact and the CCE wanted to ensure they knew their hard work has not gone unobserved.

Attached is the link to the CCE website with a compilation of the award recipients: https://www.lawrence.edu/students/volunteer/volunteer-recognition.

We would like to especially acknowledge our senior award winners: Alexander Hadlich, Alexis Shannon, Christina Sedall, Cynfor Lu, Danielle Dixon, Floréal Crubaugh, Hannah Elizabeth Tobias, Henry McCammond-Watts, Jacelynn Allen, Jesus Sanchez, Mara Kissinger, Michaela McElroy, Ora Raymond, Rebecca Swanson, Sam Parkhurst, Samantha L. Update on Summer Student Housing

As was shared with the campus earlier in May, students who are currently residing on campus had the opportunity to request to stay on campus if extenuating circumstances did not allow them to return to off-campus homes or residences. Students who are currently residing off-campus during spring term also had the opportunity to petition to return to campus early if they face extenuating circumstances.

As of today (Thursday, May 28), 110 students will reside on campus over the summer, including 9 students who are returning to campus. We will continue to follow physical distancing guidelines in student residences over the summer, and we are closely working with students who are returning to campus on a safe transition back to Lawrence. Following safety protocols and guidelines, students coming back to campus will be required to quarantine for 14 days before they can move into residence halls.

Any questions regarding summer housing should be sent to deanofstudents@lawrence.edu.
