The North Central College women’s soccer team scored twice in the first half and held on for a 2-1 nonconference victory over Lawrence University on Sunday.
North Central (1-1-0) got on the board in the 24th minute when April Kutchinski scored off her own rebound. Lawrence goalkeeper Cassie Burke made a spectacular save on Kutchinski’s first shot, but Kutchinski corralled the rebounds and got it past Burke for a 1-0 lead.
The Cardinals made it 2-0 in the 29th minute when Colleen Gebauer intercepted a Lawrence pass and scored.
The Vikings trimmed the margin to 2-1 at the 62:11 mark when Lawrence star Mallory Koula took a pass from Amanda Ollerer and beat North Central keeper Amy Frazzini.
Lawrence had several good chances in the final minutes but couldn’t get the equalizer. Frazzini made three saves to pick up the win.
