Vikings fall to Clearwater Christian in overtime

CLEARWATER, Fla. — The Lawrence University women’s basketball team dropped a 66-64 overtime decision to Clearwater Christian College in a nonconference game on Tuesday.

Sophomore guard Alex Deshler scored 25 points to pace the Vikings (0-5). Cathy Kaye added 11 points, and Amber Lisowe had nine. Deshler and Presley Neuman led the Vikings with nine rebounds apiece.

Lawrence led 27-22 at the break, and the Vikings were able to build the lead to double digits before Clearwater Christian (1-3), a member of the National Christian College Athletic Association, rallied. Lawrence freshman guard Chioma Ejimkonye had to hit a pair of free throws in the final seconds of regulation to force overtime.

Clearwater Christian led by four late in the overtime when Deshler drained a 3-pointer for the Vikings to trim the lead to one, but that’s as close as the Vikings would get. The Cougars followed with a pair of free throws in the final seconds to seal the victory.

Lawrence returns to action on Wednesday when it plays at Southeastern University.
