Scoring burst pushes Auggies past Lawrence

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — The Augsburg College hockey team scored four consecutive goals to pull away and post a 9-4 nonconference victory over Lawrence University on Friday night at Ed Saugestad Rink.

Lawrence (4-5-3) trailed only 4-3 midway through the second period when Augsburg (4-6-0) scored twice before the end of the second period and two more times in the first 6:35 of the third to pull away.

The Vikings cut the lead to 4-3 on Brad Scurfield’s goal at 9:53 of the second. John Lennartson countered for Augsburg at 11:29, and Thomas Paine scored at 18:41 to stake the Auggies to a 6-3 lead after two periods.

Paine scored again just 2:07 into the third period, and Lennartson added a power-play goal at 6:35 to give Augsburg an 8-3 edge.

Lennartson finished the night with four goals, and Paine had a pair.

Ben DiMarco scored at 9:36 to cut the lead to 8-4, but Augsburg got its second goal of the night from Trevor Doden to complete the scoring.

John Bretzman made 32 saves and got the win for Augsburg. Freshman Adam Eno played the first 46:35 and took the loss. He made 29 saves and allowed eight goals.

Lawrence and Augsburg wrap up the series on Saturday afternoon.
