APPLETON, Wis. — The Cornell College women’s basketball team pulled away late in the first half and went on to a 68-34 Midwest Conference victory over Lawrence University on Saturday at Alexander Gymnasium.
Taylor Dicus paced Cornell (18-3, 14-2 MWC) with game highs of 16 points and eight rebounds. Rikki Mulloy added 10 points for the Rams.
Katie Schumacher paced Lawrence (3-18, 1-15) with 10 points, and Alex Deshler and Kassidy Rinehart added eight points apiece.
Lawrence hung with the powerful Rams, who are tied for first place in the conference, early in the game. The Vikings led by as many as four points in the first eight minutes and were up 11-8 on Rinehart’s layup with 9:34 left.
The Rams scored the next four points to take a 12-11 lead, but Andrea Wilkinson countered with a jumper for Lawrence to give the Vikings their final lead of the game at 13-12. Cornell then scored the final 16 points of the first half for a 28-13 lead at the half.
Lawrence finally broke a scoreless drought of 8:21 with a Courtney Schmidt free throw 43 seconds into the second half, but the Rams just kept pulling away. The Rams would go on to lead by as many as 35 points.
Lawrence finishes its home schedule on Wednesday when it hosts Lake Forest College.
