APPLETON, Wis. — A 24-point second quarter propelled St. Norbert College to a 42-0 Midwest Conference North Division victory over Lawrence University on Saturday night in the Banta Bowl.
St. Norbert (5-3, 3-1 MWC) scored three touchdowns in a span of 3:31 to take command in the second quarter.
St. Norbert quarterback James Tringali completed 12-of-29 passes for 212 yards and two touchdowns. Brett Olson did a lot of damage with five catches for 101 yards and a pair of scores for the Green Knights.
Lawrence quarterback Chance Byrd 20 carries for 55 yards and completed 10-of-27 passes for 80 yards.
After a scoreless first quarter, St. Norbert moved 76 yards in six plays for the game’s first touchdown. Zach Broberg’s six-yard run gave the Green Knights a 7-0 lead. Lawrence then fumbled the ensuing kickoff return, and Ryan Grandlic scooped up the fumble at the Lawrence 10-yard line and scored for a 14-0 lead.
After a three-and-out, the Green Knights got the ball back at Lawrence 34-yard line following Brandon Carter’s 14-yard punt return. Tringali then hit Olson with a 30-yard scoring pass four plays later for a 21-0 lead. The Green Knights added a Randy Hill 30-yard field goal with 17 seconds left in the first half and led 24-0 at the break.
St. Norbert got another Tringali-to-Olson touchdown pass in the third quarter, and backup quarterback Cole Patterson tossed an 11-yard scoring pass late in the fourth quarter.
Senior linebacker Brandon Taylor paced the Lawrence defense with 10 tackles, including 1.5 tackles for loss. Taylor also played in the offensive backfield and posted six carries for 36 yards.
