MENOMONIE, Wis. — A goal early in the third period proved to be the difference as the UW-Stout hockey team defeated Lawrence University 2-1 in a nonconference game Saturday night at the Dunn County Ice Arena.
The Blue Devils (2-5-0) got a goal from Justin Moody just 1:24 into the third period to break a 1-1 tie. The Vikings had a 14-12 edge in shots in the final period and pulled goaltender Anton Olsson for the final 1:27 but could not get the equalizer.
Stout had grabbed a 1-0 lead on Tyler Cayemberg’s power-play goal with just two seconds left in the first period. Lawrence (4-4-0) tied it on Matt Moore’s goal off a feed from Brandon Boelter at the 17:08 mark of the second period.
Olsson made 25 saves for the Vikings, and Spencer Viele made 30 saves for the Blue Devils.
