APPLETON, Wis. — The Lawrence University women’s soccer team rolled to a 5-0 Midwest Conference victory over Ripon College on Thursday night at Ron Roberts Field at the Banta Bowl.
Perrin Tourangeau had a goal and two assists for the Vikings (9-7-0, 4-4-0 MWC), who have won three straight. Ryan Berkley had a pair of assists, and Mari Hubanks and Christine Kerkman both scored their first collegiate goals.
Lawrence jumped on top in the 19th minute after a handball in the Ripon penalty box. Anne Leung converted the penalty kick as her shot hit the bottom of the crossbar and went into the net for a 1-0 lead.
The Vikings made it 2-0 on Hubanks’ goal at the 26:03 mark. Hubanks took a pass from Tourangeau and raced up the left sideline. She drove into the box and fired it past Ripon goalkeeper Jessica Bykowski.
Ripon (7-7-1, 3-4-0) nearly cut the lead in half with just over a minute left in first. After a handball in the Lawrence penalty box, Paige Birschbach took the penalty kick, but her shot deflected off the right upright and out of bounds.
Lawrence then put the game away with the help of a pair of corner kicks. Berkley took a corner in the 60th minute that Bykowski deflected away. It came to Tourangeau, who fired it into the net for a 3-0 edge.
Berkley took another corner at the 73:03 mark, and defender Genna Matt headed it toward the goal. Bykowski got a hand on it, but it deflected into the net for a 4-0 Lawrence lead.
Kerkman shook loose in the Ripon penalty area with just under two minutes left and got her first collegiate goal to complete the scoring.
Lawrence goalkeeper Patsy Kealey made eight saves to record her fifth shutout of the season. Bykowski made nine saves for Ripon.
Lawrence now has a 14-3-1 record in its last 18 meetings with the Red Hawks. The five goals for Lawrence was the most against the Red Hawks since an 8-3 win back in 2010.
