The Illinois College women’s basketball team jumped out to a 16-point lead less than six minutes into the game and went on to a 60-37 Midwest Conference victory Friday night over Lawrence University at Alexander Gymnasium.
Rachel Macon scored 15 points to pace Illinois College (2-2, 1-0 MWC) and Sarah Puckett and Alex Gabriel added 10 points apiece. Carrie Walberg pulled down a game-high 19 rebounds for the Lady Blues.
Alex Deshler paced Lawrence (0-3, 0-1) with nine points and a team-best 12 rebounds. Katie Van Es added eight points for the Vikings.
Illinois College hit eight of its first 10 shots from the floor to jump out to a 19-3 lead with 14:21 left in the opening half. Puckett hit a pair of 3-pointers in that stretch and Gabriel added five points during the run.
Lawrence trailed by 19 points and 35-16 at the half.
Illinois College built the lead to 20 points midway through the second half and the final margin of 23 points matched the Lady Blues’ biggest lead of the contest.
