APPLETON, Wis. — A big second quarter lead the Beloit College women’s basketball team to a 68-49 Midwest Conference victory over Lawrence University on Tuesday at Alexander Gymnasium.
The Bucs (8-13, 6-10 MWC) outscored Lawrence (0-21, 0-16) 23-10 in the second quarter to build a 36-21 lead at the break. The Vikings closed to within 12 points early in the fourth quarter before the Bucs pulled away.
Lana Wieseman led Beloit with 17 points and nine rebounds. Nora Polaski added 11 points and Laura Panicali had 10 for the Bucs.
Patsy Kealey paced Lawrence with 13 points, nine rebounds and three assists. Aubrey Scott chipped in with nine points and four rebounds for the Vikings.
Lawrence closed the first quarter with a 3-pointer from Olivia Hoesley and a jumper from Lauren Deveikis to cut the lead to 13-11 after one period.
Beloit went on a 13-3 run over the first four minutes of the second quarter to push the lead to 28-14. The Bucs went up by 17 at 36-19 before settling for a 15-point lead at the half.
Lawrence was down 43-24 in the third quarter before going on a 7-0 run, capped by Kealey’s layup, to cut the margin to 43-30. Beloit built the lead back to 51-34 before Lawrence got a three-point play from Kealey to end the third quarter and a jumper from Deveikis to start the fourth.
Deveikis’ jumper trimmed the margin to 51-39, but Beloit responded with an 11-2 run over the next four minutes to seal the victory.
