NOTRE DAME, Ind. — The Lawrence University fencing teams combined for for victories at the University of Notre Dame Duals this past weekend. The Lawrence men and women both posted 2-4 records.
The Lawrence women defeated the University of Detroit Mercy 17-10, and foil led the way with an 8-1 record. Lawrence also defeated Cleveland State University 22-3. Lawrence shut out Cleveland State 9-0 in foil and went 6-1 in epee and 7-2 in sabre.
On the men’s side, Lawrence topped Detroit Mercy 20-7. Sabre led the way against the Titans with an 8-1 mark. The Vikings also downed Wayne State 14-13 on the strength of an 8-1 record in sabre.
CLEVELAND, Ohio — Matt DeStasio and Alyssa Rosenbaum were the top finishers for the Lawrence University fencing team at the NCAA Midwest Regional this weekend at Cleveland State University.
Competing in epee, DeStasio picked up seven victories on the day and finished in 11th place. Brendan O’Flaherty grabbed 13th place for the Vikings and David Cordie was 14th.
Rosenbaum, also competing in epee, won a trio of matches and also finished in 11th place.
In men’s foil, Lawrence’s Yongwoo Choi finished in 14th place and Alex Biehl was 15th. On the women’s side, Caitlee Hoglund was 19th for the Vikings.
Alan Duff grabbed 13th in men’s sabre, and Drew Doares was 16th. Madeline Cooper was 16th for the Vikings in women’s sabre.
NOTRE DAME, Ind. — Lawrence University grabbed ninth place overall at the Midwest Fencing Conference Championships at the University of Notre Dame on Sunday.
Lawrence finished with 730 points to place ninth among the 20 teams. Ohio State took the overall title with 1,305 points.
The Lawrence men finished eighth overall with 425 points. Epee led the way for the Vikings by taking fifth place in the team competition.
The Vikings defeated Illinois 5-1 in the first round before losing 5-0 to Northwestern in the quarterfinals. The Vikings rebounded to beat Indiana 5-2 in the consolation semifinals and then topped the University of Chicago 5-2 in the fifth-place match.
In men’s foil, the Vikings finished 10th after a 5-3 loss to Michigan State in the ninth-place match. Lawrence took ninth place in men’s sabre with a 5-3 victory over Chicago.
On the women’s side, Lawrence placed 11th overall with 305 points. Women’s epee placed 15th with a 5-3 victory over Xavier. Women’s foil placed 10th after a 5-1 loss to Iowa in the ninth-place match. Women’s sabre took 10th after a 5-4 loss to Purdue in the ninth-place match.
In the individual competition, the top finisher for the Vikings was Alyssa Rosenbaum, who placed 21st in women’s epee. Shallion Dixon led the Vikings by taking 25th in sabre, and Laura Barksdale was tops in foil in 33rd place.
On the men’s side, Alan Duff grabbed 23rd place in sabre, and Alex Biehl took 23rd in foil. Matt DeStasio placed 24th to pace the Vikings in epee.
EVANSTON, Ill. — The Lawrence University fencing teams picked up five victories at the Northwestern Duals this past weekend at Patten Gymnasium.
The Lawrence women posted a 3-5 record with the Vikings earning victories against Illinois, Wisconsin and Minnesota. Lawrence beat Illinois 19-4, defeated Wisconsin 17-4 and stopped Minnesota 17-9.
The Lawrence men went 2-7 in their matches. The Vikings posted an 18-8 win over Iowa and beat Minnesota 15-11.
EVANSTON, Ill. — The Lawrence University men’s fencing team won a pair of matches and the women’s team picked up one victory at the Northwestern Duals on Sunday at the Henry Crown Sports Pavilion.
The Lawrence men finished with a 2-4 record. The Vikings defeated Cal Tech 20-7 and downed Detroit 20-7 for its two victories. The Lawrence women finished with a 1-7 mark. Lawrence’s picked up an 18-9 win over Cal Tech.

The Lawrence women went 4-5 in their matches on Saturday. Lawrence recorded victories over Indiana (20-7), Detroit (16-11), Cleveland State (20-7) and Wisconsin (23-4). Foil led the way for the Vikings with an overall record of 35-45.
The Lawrence men finished with a 2-7 mark on Sunday. The Vikings picked up victories over Michigan State (15-12) and Detroit (17-10). Epee was the strongest unit for the Vikings with an overall record of 39-42.
DETROIT, Mich. — The Lawrence University fencing team took part in the NCAA Midwest Regional on Saturday and Sunday at Wayne State University.
Madeline Cooper paced the women’s team by taking 14th place in sabre. Mariah Wilkerson took 15th in epee, and Caitlyn Hoglund grabbed 17th in foil.
On the men’s side, Frederick Breslow and Alex Biehl led the Vikings. Breslow was 12th in sabre and Biehl took 12th in foil. Matthew DeStasio was Lawrence’s top finisher in epee as he took 14th.

The Lawrence women finished in 12th place among the 19 teams.
Lawrence placed ninth in the combined team standings. Notre Dame won both the men’s and women’s titles.

The Lawrence men had a 1-7 record, and the Vikings’ lone win was a 15-12 victory over Cleveland State.
