Hot-shooting Titans down Lawrence

OSHKOSH, Wis. — A hot-shooting UW-Oshkosh men’s basketball team downed Lawrence University 75-66 in a nonconference game Wednesday at Kolf Sports Center.

The Titans (1-1) did most of their damage from long range, shooting 60.9 percent from 3-point range by connecting on 14 of 23 shots from beyond the arc. Oshkosh shot 48.3 percent (28 of 58) from the floor for the game.

Greg Schrimpf led Oshkosh with 21 points, and Paul Wojahn came off the bench to score 19 points.

Tyler Crisman led Lawrence (0-2) with 23 points, and Chris Siebert added 18. Erik Borresen had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

The game was tight early, and Lawrence led 15-14 on a Crisman free throw with 11:40 left in the first half. The Titans were up 23-20 when they scored seven consecutive points to grab a 30-20 lead with 6:44 left in the first half.

After a Siebert layup cut the lead to 30-22, the Titans made their next six shots from the floor and took a 47-31 lead into the locker room.

Oshkosh opened the second half by hitting four of its first six shots from the floor, all 3-pointers, to grab a 59-36 lead with 14:09 left.

Lawrence wasn’t able to make much of a dent in Oshkosh’s lead until late. The Vikings trimmed the margin from 69-48 to the final deficit of just nine points in the final 3:52.

Lawrence enjoyed a big advantage at the foul line, but the Vikings hurt themselves by only converting 17 of 28 (60.7 percent) from the charity stripe. Oshkosh only attempted eight free throws on the night.

Lawrence returns to action on Dec. 3-4 when it hosts Illinois College and Lake Forest College to open Midwest Conference play.
