Rowland, McLeod earn all-conference volleyball honors

APPLETON, Wis. — Lawrence University volleyball standouts Kathleen Rowland and Diane McLeod have been named to the All-Midwest Conference team.

Rowland (Champaign, Ill./Central) was a first-team selection, and McLeod (Hartland, Wis./Waukesha Catholic Memorial) was chosen for the second team.

This marks the third consecutive all-conference selection for Rowland, a senior and the league’s top defensive specialist. Rowland piled up 552 digs and ranked second in the league at 5.41 digs per set. The 552 digs is the fourth-highest season total in Lawrence history. She also contributed a team-high 35 service aces.

Rowland finished her career as the most prolific defensive player in Lawrence history. Rowland is Lawrence’s career leader with 2,189 digs, and her career average of 5.43 digs per set is also tops in school history.

Rowland has four of the top five season dig averages in school history. She ranks second (5.55, 2011), third (5.52, 2012), fourth (5.41, 2013) and fifth (5.25, 2010) on the season list.

McLeod, a senior setter, was chosen for the all-conference team for the second time. She also earned second-team honors in 2011.

McLeod amassed 758 assists this season for an average of 8.52 per set. McLeod also picked up 73 kills and had a .197 hitting percentage. McLeod added 27 aces, 40 blocks and 210 digs.

She finished her career second on Lawrence’s career list with 2,902 assists. McLeod is third on Lawrence’s career list with an average of 8.22 assists per set.

Lawrence finished sixth in the Midwest Conference with a 5-5 record, and the Vikings had a 10-20 overall mark.

Benedictine shuts out Lawrence

LISLE, Ill. — The Benedictine University volleyball team stopped Lawrence University 3-0 on Saturday in a nonconference match at Benedictine’s Eagle Classic.

The Eagles (16-14) defeated Lawrence (10-20) 25-21, 25-17, 25-18.

Terese Swords led Lawrence with 12 kills. Alison Lehman posted 24 assists for the Vikings, and Kathleen Rowland finished with 16 digs.

North Central rallies past Vikings

LISLE, Ill. — The North Central College volleyball team rallied for a 3-1 nonconference victory over Lawrence University on Saturday at the Benedictine University Eagle Classic.

North Central (11-21) defeated Lawrence (10-19) 18-25, 25-22, 2515, 27-25.

Terese Swords paced Lawrence with 10 kills, and Kayla Storm had nine. Alison Lehman picked up 35 assists and 12 digs for the Vikings, and Kathleen Rowland had 23 digs.

Vikings sweep past Knox

GALESBURG, Ill. — Kayla Storm had a big day for the Lawrence University volleyball team as the Vikings swept Knox College 3-0 in a Midwest Conference match on Saturday at Memorial Gymnasium.

Lawrence (10-16, 5-5 MWC) defeated the Prairie Fire (3-21, 1-8) 25-23, 25-11, 25-16.

Storm pounded out 14 kills and had only one attack error in 26 attempts for a .500 hitting percentage on the afternoon. Terese Swords added seven kills and Megan Conley added six for the Vikings, who hit .254 as a team.

Diane McLeod had 24 assists and four aces for the Vikings, and Kathleen Rowland picked up 17 digs.

Kaylie Price led Knox with nine kills, and Madison Pierro had a match-high 18 digs.

Scots topple Lawrence

MONMOUTH, Ill. — The Monmouth College volleyball team carved out a 3-1 Midwest Conference victory over Lawrence University on Friday night at Glennie Gymnasium.

The Scots defeated Lawrence 25-17, 25-16, 24-26, 25-14.

Lorin Pedersoli led Monmouth (9-13, 4-4 MWC) with 12 kills, and Mackenzie Gillund added 12. Mollie Murdock picked up a match-high 41 assists, and Abby Butitta piled up 19 digs.

Terese Swords paced Lawrence (9-16, 4-5) with 14 kills, and Diane McLeod had 28 assists. Kathleen Rowland had a match-high 21 digs for the Vikings.

Green Knights top Lawrence

APPLETON, Wis. — The St. Norbert College volleyball team won three close sets and topped Lawrence University 3-0 in a Midwest Conference match on Tuesday at Alexander Gymnasium.

St. Norbert (11-14, 5-2 MWC) defeated the Vikings (9-15, 4-4) 25-23, 25-21, 25-21.

The Green Knights rallied from a 22-20 deficit to win the first set, and took the second set after the score was tied 20-20. St. Norbert held on in the third set after leading 21-20.

Anika Johnson led St. Norbert with 12 kills, and Heidi Spies had 10. Abby West picked up 22 assists, and Aubree Antosch had 19 digs for the Green Knights.

Kayla Storm paced Lawrence with 11 kills, and Terese Swords added 10. Diane McLeod had a match-high 34 assists for the Vikings, and Kathleen Rowland picked up 16 digs.

McLeod paces Vikings in rout of Beloit

APPLETON, Wis. — Diane McLeod pulled off a triple-double on Saturday for the Lawrence University volleyball team in the Vikings’ 3-0 Midwest Conference victory over Beloit College.

Lawrence (9-14, 4-3 MWC) defeated the Bucs (5-13, 1-5) 25-11, 25-12, 25-14.

McLeod, a senior setter, piled up 11 kills, 27 assists and 10 digs to pace the Vikings.

Terese Swords added nine kills and Kayla Storm had six for Lawrence. Kathleen Rowland had a match-high 21 digs for the Vikings.

Molly Schulting led Beloit with eight kills, and Carolyn Stransky had 18 assists.

Foresters top Lawrence 3-1

APPLETON, Wis. — Brittany Avonts hammered down 14 kills to lead Lake Forest College to a 3-1 Midwest Conference victory over Lawrence University on Friday night at Alexander Gymnasium.

The Foresters (10-12, 4-2 MWC) defeated Lawrence (8-14, 3-3) 25-20, 23-25, 25-19, 25-23.

Sarah House added nine kills, and K.C. Wenson had eight for the Foresters. Lake Forest also piled up 13.0 team blocks, as Avonts had six and Victoria Drasler had six. Drasler also had 16 assists, and Torie Pasiewicz had 21.

Terese Swords paced Lawrence with 12 kills, and Betsy Sorensen added 10. Diane McLeod picked up 37 assists for the Vikings, and Kathleen Rowland had a match-high 22 digs. Kayla Storm chipped in with seven kills and five service aces.
