APPLETON, Wis. — Lilly Endsley’s singles victory lifted the Lawrence University women’s tennis team to a 5-4 nonconference win over UW-Oshkosh on Sunday at the Lawrence Courts.
With the match tied at 4-4, Endsley defeated Paige Ganser 6-3, 6-3 to give Lawrence (5-5) the victory.
Lawrence dug itself a hole by winning just one of the three doubles matches. Endsley and Katie Frankel were 8-4 winners at No. 1 doubles, but the Vikings trailed 2-1 heading into the singles.
In addition to Annie Harincar’s 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 5 singles, the Vikings won a pair of super-tiebreakers to help pull out the victory. Lawrence’s Lindsay Holsen posted a 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (10-5) win at No. 3, and El Goblirsch picked up a 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-5) win at No. 6. Those wins evened the match at 4-4 and set up Endsley’s clinching victory.
It was the first win for Lawrence head coach Steve Francour over his alma mater, a team he coached for 23 seasons. Francour is a 1988 graduate of UW-Oshkosh and took over the Lawrence tennis programs in July 2013.
