Doritos and reading period

by Clare Lauer on February 18, 2015

Hello again!

I think this blog post is going to be in two parts. I’ll start it now, and give you guys an update about this week but then I’ll do the second half at the end of the weekend. Oh man – don’t you just love format changes?! Woo-hoo! Okay, down to business. Currently, it’s a Wednesday night of our sixth week of Winter term (which for reference is only ten weeks long). This is an interesting week, because we don’t have school tomorrow or Friday due to our midterm reading period. What’s a midterm reading period you ask? Well well, let me tell you! For our midterm exams, we are given two days off to study and in some cases complete take-home exams as well. However, there are also many classes that have midterms scheduled for the first part of this week – before midterm reading period. Why would you have a midterm before the break where you’re supposed to study for them? In all honestly I’m not exactly sure. However the upside of taking your midterms before the reading period is that you actually have a short break during the middle of the term! I am somewhat in this situation as I had the midterm for my geology class today, and my psychology class doesn’t have a midterm. Interestingly, my french professor decided to give us our midterm a week or two after reading period. It will be nice not to have a midterm over reading period, but we will now be taking it during the seventh or eighth week of the term (of a ten week term, remember). To me, that sounds more like a pre-final than a midterm. Especially since there will only be two or three weeks in between the two. Anyway, it’s not really a problem – I just think it’s funny to continue calling it a midterm at that point.

Hmm, was that interesting at all? I can’t tell anymore. It’s amazing the things that can consume your days only for you to realize you’ve just spent hours thinking about the timing of your midterms. Yeesh! I’m going to tell you two other things I did today that are hopefully more interesting than that. First, I worked out with my personal student trainer at Lawrence’s gym. And now, my shoulders feel all tingly from lifting weights. I have very limited upper body strength to begin with you see. Second, I had a sack lunch today (aka: a packed lunch of turkey sandwiches, an apple, some carrots, and a cookie) and I put Doritos on my turkey sandwich. It was life changing. The crunchiness of the chips were mind-blowing on a sandwich – try it sometime!

HI AGAIN!

If you can believe it, five days has passed and I’m now talking to you after reading period has ended. In that time, five women from my sorority and I drove to Columbus, Ohio and back! We attended an Institute for Delta Gamma officers, and I learned tons about my position as Vice President Panhellenic of my chapter. There were over 1,000 collegiate women there, so I also met several other Delta Gammas – all of whom are my sisters 🙂 I have a couple fun pictures from the weekend, and I’ll pop them in this post below.

Alright friends, have a great rest of your week!
