Near the bitter end

Bonsoir mes amis!

Good evening everyone! It’s a cold, Thursday evening here in Appleton, and I am checking in with you guys as I’m also listening to some George Ezra softly on my computer. The time is dwindling away in this winter term. In fact, there’s only about three weeks left! Unfortunately, I tend to become very stressed around this time because final projects and papers are due pretty soon. This term, I have my first literary review for a psychology class to complete, and another final project and paper for my other classes as well. Happily, I really enjoy the topic of my lit review, and it will be very interesting to see what patterns I can find in the research after I’ve read through it all!

One of my favorite parts of coming back to campus, is getting involved with the jewish student group Hillel again. Last year I planned a few holiday parties for the group, and I have recently stared planning for a campus-wide Passover Seder. If you need a quick definition, a Seder is ceremonial dinner that is actually apart of the religious holiday service. Before last year, there hadn’t been a student-run Seder on campus in a while. But that was only part of what made the Seder so special. In additional to a great group of students, staff, and faculty we were lucky enough to have Lawrence’s president, Mark Burstein, attend the Seder too! I, along with other members of Hillel lead the Seder, and the catering company on campus served the meal. With the sunset falling over the river, and everyone eating and laughing together the evening had a very special feel. Also, it was extremely satisfying to celebrate one of the Jewish holidays at school. My freshman year, I didn’t celebrate Passover at all, and I remember that feeling very bizarre.

Hey guess what guys?! I’m doing the same thing I did in my last blog, where I finish the blog a couple days later! This time it wasn’t planned, but the past few days have been VERY busy! Over the weekend, Delta Gamma had our Initiation of our newest members where they became full members of our organization. The weekend involves a special ritual the night before, and the Initiation ceremony occurs the next morning. I’m realizing that some of you might think of something crazy and maybe a little scary when I mention the word ‘ritual’. I know before I joined Delta Gamma I thought sorority rituals were like they’re portrayed in movie – a little too intense, and involving way too many candles. However, I am happy to report Delta Gamma’s rituals are quite different! In fact, they’re very beautiful I my opinion. The best part of the weekend was officially welcoming my friend Shelby into our chapter!

So to sum this up, I have a couple pictures to add. One is from the night before Initiation, and the other two are bonus 🙂 Have a great week you guys!
