Lawrence University softball star Alex Goodson put on a power-hitting display this past weekend and was named the Midwest Conference Player of the Week.
Goodson (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield), a senior first baseman, hit .706 in the five games of the Midwest Conference Classic this past weekend.
Goodson, a three-time all-conference and all-region selection, went 12-for-17 with seven of those hits going for extra bases. She hit five homers, smacked a pair of doubles and drove in 13 runs. Goodson compiled a 1.706 slugging percentage and a .737 on-base percentage for a staggering 2.443 OPS.
In a 9-6 win over Illinois College, Goodson went 4-for-4 with a double, two homers and three RBIs. In a 4-2 loss to Lake Forest, she was 2-for-3 and drove in a run. She finished the first day of the MWC Classic by going 3-for-4 with two homers and drove in all five of her team’s runs in 9-5 loss to Monmouth.
Goodson then went 2-for-3 with a double, a homer and three RBIs in a 9-0 win over Grinnell. She finished the MWC Classic by going 1-for-3 with a RBI in a 13-3 win over Knox.
Goodson is now hitting .500 for the season with seven doubles, five homers and 20 RBIs.
The Vikings return to action on Wednesday when they host Ripon College in a conference doubleheader.
