Three Lawrence University softball players have been chosen for the All-Midwest Conference North Division team in a vote by league coaches.
Senior first baseman Alex Goodson (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield) was selected for the fourth consecutive season. Sophomore outfielder Katie Simonson (Waterford, Wis./Waterford) was chosen for the second year in a row and freshman outfielder Cathy Kaye (Sturgeon Bay, Wis./Sevastopol) also was selected.
In the 13 conference games, Goodson led the league in batting average at .585 and was first in runs batted in (21), home runs (six), triples (two), hits (24) and total bases (50).
For the season, Goodson hit .456 with 11 doubles, two triples, seven homers and 30 RBIs. Goodson finished her career with a .408 batting average, which ranks third in Lawrence history. She finished first in Lawrence history with 122 RBIs, 21 homers, 41 doubles and a .735 slugging percentage.
Simonson, who played center field, finished 10th in the conference with a .442 batting average. Simonsin had two doubles, a homer and eight RBIs.
Simonson finished the season with a .358 average. She had four doubles, four triples, a homer and 13 RBIs on the season. Simonson set a school record with two triples in a game against D’Youville College on Lawrence’s spring break trip to Florida.
Kaye was 14th in conference play with a .417 batting average. Batting in the lead-off spot, Kaye had four doubles, a triple, three homers and seven RBIs.
On the season, Kaye was second on the team with a .398 batting average. She piled up 11 doubles, two triples, six homers and 17 RBIs.
The Vikings finished third in the North Division and compiled a 16-16 record on the season.
