Beth Larson

Lawrence University women’s tennis star Beth Larson put together a perfect opening week of the season and was chosen as the Midwest Conference Player of the Week.

Larson (Maplewood, Minn./Mounds Park Academy), a junior, also knocked off the Midwest Conference’s defending No. 1 singles champion. Larson was 3-0 on the week at No. 1 singles and teamed with Jenny Roesch to go 3-0 at No. 1 doubles.

Larson capped her week with a 6-0, 7-6 victory over Lake Forest College’s Melika Celebic, who won the conference’s top singles title in 2009. Led by Larson, the Vikings defeated the Foresters 7-2. Larson posted a 6-0, 6-0 win in singles in Lawrence’s 9-0 win over Marian University. She also won 6-0, 6-2 in singles in Lawrence’s 5-4 victory over Edgewood College, the defending Northern Athletics Conference champion.

Lawrence takes on Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference foes UW-Oshkosh and UW-River Falls later this week.
