DE PERE, Wis. – The St. Norbert College football team jumped out to an early lead and pulled away for a 77-26 Midwest Conference victory over Lawrence University on Saturday at Schneider Stadium.
St. Norbert (2-2, 2-1 MWC) piled up 622 yards of offense, including 354 on the ground. Quarterback Rob Berger led St. Norbert with nine carries for 87 yards and he also completed 12 of 19 passes for 250 yards and five touchdowns.
Lawrence (1-3, 1-2) did put up 454 yards of offense on the afternoon. Quarterback Luke Barthelmess led the Vikings in rushing with seven carries for 37 yards. Quarterback Tyler Mazur was 16 of 24 passing for 211 yards and two touchdowns. Mazur also ran five times for 28 yards and caught two passes for 58 yards.
Wide receiver Jeremiah Johnson had a big day for the Vikings with nine catches for 146 yards and a touchdown. Jon Bruehl caught three passes for 59 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
St. Norbert led 14-0 midway through the first quarter, but Lawrence cut the margin to 14-6 on Bruehl’s 29-yard touchdown catch with 9:09 left in the second quarter. The Green Knights then scored two more times before the half and led 27-6 at the break.
St. Norbert put the game away with four touchdowns in the third quarter and led 56-12 after three. Bruehl caught a 23-yard scoring pass in the quarter for Lawrence.
Mazur then ran for a score and hit Johnson with a six-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter.
Lawrence returns to action next Saturday when it travels to Illinois College.
