The Adrian College hockey team scored two goals in the third period and rallied for a 4-3 Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association victory over Lawrence University on Friday night at the Appleton Family Ice Center.
Ninth-ranked Adrian (12-3-1, 9-1-1 MCHA) scored twice in a span of 1:39 midway through the third period to take the lead for good.
The Bulldogs trailed 3-2 entering the third but got a power-play goal from Eric Miller to tie the game at 3-3 at the 10:11 mark. Andrew Dovey then scored at 11:50 to put Adrian up 4-3.
The Vikings (9-6-1, 7-4-0) pulled goaltender Evan Johnson for the final 55 seconds but could not get the equalizer. Johnson made 25 saves and took the loss. Brad Fogal made 39 saves to earn the win.
The Vikings outshot Adrian 42-29.
Adrian grabbed a 1-0 lead just 49 seconds into the game on Mike Dahlinger’s goal. Sam Johnson tied it for the Vikings at the 7:34 mark of the first.
The Vikings got a goal from Ben DiMarco at the 4:04 mark of the second to take a 2-1 lead. Matt Hughes then scored at 13:52 of the second to put Lawrence up 3-1. Adrian cut the lead to 3-2 on Brad Houston’s goal at 16:54 of the second.
The teams wrap up the two-game series on Saturday afternoon.
