Monmouth’s pressure too much for Vikings

The Monmouth College used a trapping defense to spark an 81-49 Midwest Conference victory over Lawrence University on Wednesday at Alexander Gymnasium.

Colleen Forrest paced the Scots (6-3, 4-1 MWC) with 15 points, all of them coming on 3-pointers. Justine Boone added 14 points, six assists and five of Monmouth’s 19 steals. The Scots forced 28 Lawrence turnovers.

Nakita Chadwick and Cathy Kaye had 10 points apiece to pace Lawrence (0-9, 0-4). Chadwick also had a game-high eight rebounds.

Monmouth jumped on Lawrence early and never let up. The Scots went on a 10-0 run early in the game to build a 14-4 lead and put together a 9-2 run later in the first half to build a 32-14 edge with 5:11 left in the opening half. Monmouth’s biggest lead of the first half was its 44-20 advantage at the break.

The Scots then scored the first nine points of the second half to grab a 53-20 lead and would lead by as many as 37 points in the second half.

Lawrence returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Beloit College.
