CLERMONT, Fla. — The Lawrence University softball team dug itself an early hole and couldn’t quite climb out in a 7-6 nonconference loss to Concordia (Wis.) University on Thursday at the National Training Center.
Concordia (10-4) scored four times in the bottom of the first and led 4-1 after the opening inning. Lawrence cut the lead to 4-3 in the top of the fifth, but the Falcons scored twice in the bottom half of the inning and added another run in the sixth to go up 7-3.
Lawrence cut the lead to 7-6 in the top of the seventh when sophomore catcher Gaelen Lombard-Knapp blasted a three-run homer, but that’s as close as the Vikings would get.
Center fielder Katie Simonsen went 2-for-4 with a double, and freshman Alex Chiodo also picked up a pair of hits for the Vikings.
Emily Perish went the distance but took the loss for Lawrence.
