Lawrence University standout William Thoren has been named to the All-Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association team and the All-Freshmen team in a vote by league coaches.
Thoren (Gothenburg, Sweden), a freshman defenseman, was one of five defensemen chosen for the all-conference squad.
Thoren was second on the team with 20 points and had a team-best 16 assists, which is the 11th-best season assist total in school history. Thoren scored all four of his goals in conference play and picked up 11 assists for 15 points in MCHA action.
Thoren finished fifth in the MCHA in scoring by defensemen and sixth in scoring by freshmen.
Eight Vikings were selected for the all-academic team. To be eligible for the academic all-conference team, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore and have a minimum 3.0 grade point average.
Earning academic all-conference honors for Lawrence were: Michael Baldino (Woburn, Mass.), sophomore, goaltender, biology major; Jesse Byam-Katzman (Brooklyn, N.Y.), junior, defenseman, philosophy major; Ben DiMarco (Galveston, Texas), junior, forward, math and economics major; Jacob Esch (Madison, Wis.), senior, forward, economics and environmental science major; Matt Hughes (Goodrich, Mich.), junior, forward, biology major; Sam Johnson (Portland, Maine), junior, forward, economics major; Brad Scurfield (Midland, Mich.), sophomore, forward, biology major; Jon Sheridan (Midland, Mich.), senior, defenseman, pre-medicine major.
