Vikings finish fifth at UW-Oshkosh Classic

OSHKOSH, Wis. — The Lawrence University volleyball team grabbed fifth place at the UW-Oshkosh Pizza Hut Classic.

Lawrence (3-6) split four matches during the two-day tournament.

The Vikings dropped a heartbreaker to UW-Superior in their first match on Saturday by the score of 25-20, 25-21, 22-25, 12-25, 19-17. Lawrence then rebounded to beat Lake Forest College 25-22, 25-19, 22-25, 25-15 in the fifth-place match.

Against the Yellowjackets, Clare Bohrer, who was named to the all-tournament team, led the Vikings with 15 kills, Shannon McLain added 12 and Jenna Picha had eight. Diane McLeod had 44 assists, and Kathleen Rowland picked up 30 digs. Emma Kane added 18 digs and Kate Rosenbalm had 15.

Kane picked up 13 kills and 10 digs to pace the Vikings against Lake Forest. Betsy Sorensen added 11 kills and Bohrer had seven. McLeod had a team-high 38 assists, and Rowland picked up 27 digs. Sam Nimmer added 10 digs for the Vikings.

In the matches on Friday, the Vikings rallied to defeat Lakeland College 20-25, 24-26, 25-19, 25-21, 15-10 and dropped a match to the University of Chicago 25-16, 25-12, 25-15.

Against Lakeland, Bohrer led the way with 12 kills and five service aces. McLain added eight kills and Betsy Sorensen had seven. McLeod piled up 34 assists and 14 digs, and Rowland had a team-high 23 digs.

In the match against Chicago, Bohrer and McLain led Lawrence with five kills apiece. McLeod had 16 assists, and McLeod, Rowland and Nimmer picked up seven digs apiece.
