Lawrence University women’s soccer standout Cassie Burke has been named the Midwest Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season.
Burke (Golden Valley, Minn./Hopkins), a junior goalkeeper, earned the award after posting a shutout against Carroll University in Lawrence’s only action of the week.
Burke stopped 13 shots in the double-overtime scoreless tie with the Pioneers at Schneider Stadium. It was the second shutout of the season for Burke, who also posted a shutout against the Milwaukee School of Engineering earlier this season.
It was the second time this season Burke has won the award. She picked up the same honor on Sept. 20 after leading the Vikings to a pair of victories with a shutout and another scoreless half in net.
Lawrence returns to action on Wednesday when it travels to Ripon College for a Midwest Conference game.
