The Lawrence University hockey team skated to a 2-2 overtime tie with Marian University in a Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association game on Thursday night at the Appleton Family Ice Center.
Lawrence (3-0-2, 3-0-2 MCHA) got a pair of goals just 25 seconds apart in the second period, and Marian (5-1-1, 4-0-1) scored seven minutes into the third period to tie the game.
The Sabres got on the board just 47 seconds into the second period on Matt Berger’s goal to take a 1-0 lead.
Lawrence struck back exactly 20 seconds later when Sam Johnson scored off a pass from William Thoren to tie the game at 1-1. A delayed penalty had been called just seconds before the goal so Lawrence immediately went on the power play.
Jameson Raymond then scored 25 seconds later to give the Vikings a 2-1 lead. Lawrence was 1-for-2 on the power play on the evening.
The score remained that way until Bryce Wilson’s wrist shot found the back of the net at the 7:08 mark of the third to tie the score at 2-2.
Both teams had scoring chances down the stretch and in the overtime but couldn’t convert. Lawrence goalie Peter Emery made 32 saves for the Vikings, and Josh Baker stopped 40 shots for the Sabres.
Lawrence had a 42-34 edge in shots.
The teams wrap up the series Friday night at the Blue Line Ice Center in Fond du Lac, Wis.
