Jones leads Monmouth past Vikings

Haley Jones was perfect from the floor on her way to a game-high 19 points and led the Monmouth College women’s basketball team to a 94-66 Midwest Conference victory over Lawrence University on Saturday at Alexander Gymnasium.

Jones went 7-for-7 from the floor and connected on 5 of 7 free throws to pace Monmouth (7-6, 6-2 MWC). Marla Willard had a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Lauren Kellen picked up 10 assists for the Scots.

Monmouth jumped on the Vikings early and had a double-digit lead at 15-4 just 5:07 into the game. The Scots built that lead to as many as 20 points in the first half, but Lawrence trimmed the margin to 47-31 at the half.

The Scots poured it on early in the second half and went on a 28-6 run to open the half. Monmouth led 75-37 with 12:12 remaining in the contest. The Scots would go on to lead by as many as 45 points.

Lawrence returns to action on Jan. 20 when it travels to Knox College.
