The Ripon College women’s basketball team held off a spirited second-half comeback by Lawrence University and posted a 57-42 Midwest Conference victory on Tuesday at Alexander Gymnasium.
Katie Raymond scored 20 points and Jill Van Eperen added 14 to pace Ripon (8-10, 7-6 MWC).
Amber Lisowe led the Vikings with 17 points. Alex Deshler added 10 points and seven rebounds for Lawrence (1-17, 1-12).
Ripon led by as many as 17 points in the first half, but the Vikings were able to trim that to 30-18 at the half. The Red Hawks pushed the lead back to 15 at 37-22 before Lawrence started chipping away.
Lawrence went on a 13-4 run, capped by Lisowe’s 3-pointer, to close to within 41-35 with 9:37 remaining. Ripon moved the lead back to 10 points, but Lisowe hit another 3-pointer and Deshler followed with a jumper to cut the margin to 45-40 with 5:04 remaining.
Ripon then scored the game’s next six points to take a 51-40 lead with 2:53 left. The Vikings answered with a jumper from Cathy Kaye but could get no closer.
