Beloit pulls away in second half to down Vikings

The Beloit College women’s basketball team went on a 9-0 run midway through the second half to pull away and posted a 73-59 Midwest Conference victory over Lawrence University on Saturday at Alexander Gymnasium.

Kandace Fox paced Beloit (5-16, 2-14 MWC) with 17 points, nine rebounds and seven assists. Faith Jones added 16 points and Lauren McNanna had 13.

Alex Deshler led the Vikings (1-20, 1-15) with 19 points. Amber Lisowe had a double-double for Lawrence with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Chioma Ejimkonye chipped in with 12 points and five assists and Cathy Kaye had 11 points for the Vikings.

Beloit led 34-28 at the half and went up by nine in the first two minutes of the second half. Kaye hit back-to-back 3-pointers to trim the lead to 38-35 with 17:10 remaining.

The Bucs pushed the lead back to double digits and were up 53-38 before a jumper by Lisowe and a Deshler layup cut the margin to 53-42 with 10:26 left.

Beloit then scored the game’s next nine points, including four by Jones, to take a 62-42 lead with 6:34 remaining. Beloit led by as many as 21 points after that, and Lawrence didn’t closer than the final margin of 14 points.

Lawrence returns to action on Wednesday when it travels to Ripon College.
