Vikings split pair of matches at Virginia Wesleyan Invitational

NORFOLK, Va. — The Lawrence University volleyball team split a pair of matches on Friday at the Virginia Wesleyan Invitational.

The Vikings (1-1) downed Neumann 25-16, 23-25, 25-20, 25-13 in their opening match of the day. Betsy Sorensen led the Vikings with 14 kills, Shannon McLain added 11 and Jenna Picha had eight.

Diane McLeod paced the attack with 32 assists and she added two aces. Kathleen Rowland picked up 18 digs, and Kate Rosenbalm added 11 digs and two aces.

Virginia Wesleyan then topped Lawrence 25-14, 27-25, 25-21 in the nightcap.

Sorensen and McLain had six kills apiece for the Vikings, and Kayla Storm and Beth Larsen both added five kills. McLeod had a team-high 20 assists and a pair of aces. Rowland paced the team with 11 digs, and Emma Kane added seven.

The Vikings return to action on Saturday with two more matches.
