Malhotra stays perfect and earns MWC Player of the Week honors

Lawrence University women’s tennis standout Gayatri Malhotra kept her perfect singles record intact this season and was named the Midwest Conference Player of the Week.

Malhotra (Litchfield Park, Ariz./Verrado) posted a 3-0 record at No. 3 doubles and went 2-0 at No. 3 singles during the past week.

In a 5-4 victory over Carthage College, Malhotra beat Erin Hendrickson 6-4, 6-2. She also teamed with Polly Dalton for an 8-6 victory in doubles. Malhotra defeated Aimee Neilan 6-3, 6-2, in an 8-1 victory over Knox Colleg and teamed with Dalton for an 8-3 doubles victory over the Prairie Fire. Malhotra finished her week with an 8-2 doubles victory over Marian University, and that was part of Lawrence’s 9-0 victory over the Sabres.

Malhotra, who also was honored as the MWC Player of the Week on Oct. 5, 2010, is now 5-0 in singles and improved to 3-1 in doubles with Dalton.

Lawrence is 4-2 on the season and returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts UW-Stevens Point.
