Saints pull away early in win over Lawrence

DE PERE, Wis. — The College of St. Scholastic scored three goals in the first five minutes on Friday and rolled to a 9-2 nonconference victory over Lawrence University in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association/Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association Thanksgiving Classic at the Cornerstone Community Center.

Brenden Kotyk and Brandon Nowakowski both had two goals and two assists to pace St. Scholastica (2-5-0).

Renato Engler scored his first career goal for Lawrence (2-5-0), and Rudi Pino added a short-handed goal for the Vikings.

The Saints led 3-0 just 4:59 into the game and held that advantage into the second period. St. Scholastica then scored three goals, including two by Nowakowski, in the first 9:09 of the second period to pull away.

Engler finally got Lawrence on the board with a power-play goal at 17:19 of the second. Pino scored his short-hander with just 50 seconds left in the game.

Michael Baldino made 40 saves and took the loss for Lawrence, which was out-shot 49-18. Colin Rundell made 16 saves to pick up the win.

Lawrence finishes the Thanksgiving Classic when it faces No. 6 St. Norbert College on Saturday evening.
