Lawrence University coaching legend Ron Roberts died Sunday (Dec. 2) in Oshkosh, Wis., at age 81.

Roberts, who came to Lawrence in 1963 as an assistant football coach and retired in 1993, led the Vikings to unprecedented heights on the gridiron. Roberts’ football teams won six Midwest Conference championships, and the 1981 squad reached the semifinals of the NCAA Division III playoffs.
