HANCOCK, Mich. — Sean Burke and Travis Armstrong each scored a pair of goals as Finlandia University beat Lawrence University 5-1 in a Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association game on Saturday at the Houghton County Arena.
The Lions swept the weekend series after winning Friday night’s game 4-3 in overtime.
Finlandia (7-16-0, 7-11-0 MCHA) jumped on top with Jordan Passino’s goal just 6:22 into the contest. The score stayed 1-0 until Burke scored 2:43 into the second period. He added another goal at the 7:43 mark for a 3-0 Finlandia lead. Armstrong then scored with 3:38 left in the second period for a 4-0 Finlandia advantage.
The Vikings (6-15-2, 5-11-2) finally got on the board when Phil Bushbacher scored on the power play at 10:52 of the third. Finlandia then added another goal when Armstrong scored after a delayed penalty on Lawrence.
Fabian Sivnert made nine saves for Lawrence before being replaced by Michael Baldino, who finished with 19 saves. Troy Chandler made 35 saves for Finlandia.
Lawrence had a 36-33 edge in shots on goal.
