ORLANDO, Fla. — A pair of key tiebreakers went to Otterbein University on Monday, and that allowed the Cardinals to post a 6-3 nonconference win over Lawrence University.
The Cardinals (6-1) won a tiebreaker at No. 1 doubles and won a super tiebreaker at No. 2 singles to swing the match in their favor.
Lawrence (4-3) picked up an 8-4 victory by Craig Sherwood and Brian DeCorte and No. 3 doubles for its first point of the match. Otterbein’s Will Wilson and David Seckel defeated Jason Dunn and Max Zlevor 9-8, winning the tiebreaker 7-3 to take a 2-1 lead in the match after the doubles competition.
Lawrence got a 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 win at No. 5 singles from Brian DeCorte, and Jeremy Andereck posted a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 6 for the Vikings. Otterbein won another key tiebreaker when Ryan Shutt beat Dunn 2-6, 6-3, 1-0, taking the super tiebreaker 11-9.
